Off-chain refers to actions or transactions that occur outside the Bitcoin blockchain. Examples include bilateral agreements, Lightning Network transactions, and custodial transfers. Off-chain methods can provide scalability and privacy benefits but rely on additional trust or enforcement mechanisms.
